Customers to see best deals under Ofcom rules

- By JANE BRADLEY

Broadband, phone and TV customers must be told when their contract is coming to an end and shown the best deals available, under new rules announced by Ofcom.

Firms will have to alert customers when their deal is coming to an end and must tell customers every year about the best deals they offer.

The watchdog said that people who bundle their landline and broadband services together pay, on average, around 20 per cent more when they are “out of contract”.

Consumer groups wel - comed the move, saying it would encourage people to shop around when their deals come to an end.

Holly Niblett, head of digital at compare the market.com said: “The practice of rolling people onto uncompetitive end-of-contract packages without telling them is inexcusable and has gone on for far too long.”
