Kier nets ‘significant’ Scots heritage contract for Paisley Town Hall revamp

● Work due to start on-site in early 2020 in effort to create ‘top-class destination’

Kier Regional Building Scotland has been signed up to help deliver the £22 million revamp of Paisley Town Hall, in what it has described as a “significant” heritage contract win.

The firm – part of Kier Group – said it was appointed by Hub West Scotland, delivery partner for Renfrewshire Council, to carry out the pre-constructi on phase of the over haul of the 19 th-century building into a modern facility billed as helping safeguard the historic venue’s future.

The building specialist said the redevelopment work will allow the Town Hall to host a broader range of events as well as improving the performance facilities and visitor experience, including new cat ering and conference facilities, better physical access, and improved mechanical and electrical systems.

Kier Regional Building also stressed its experience working with landmark buildings, noting that it is working on the refurbishment of the Burrell Museum and has just completed the “technically complex” redevelopment of Scotland’ s oldest concert venue, Aberdeen Music Hall.

“Work is due to start on-site in early 2020 and be completed by the end of 2021. As well as transforming Paisley Town Hall into a top-class destination, we will be creating local jobs for local people together with valuable learning and training opportunities.”

Councillor Lisa-marie Hughes, chair of Renfrewshire Leisure, added that the project is a key part of wider investment by Renfrewshire Council to use Paisley’s globally significant culture and heritage to drive new footfall to the town.

She added: “We look forward to working with Kier on the main construction work starting next year – and all involved will make sure residents, businesses and neighbours are kept closely informed of work while it happens.”

Advance works are taking place on the site – and Kier will star t work on the main construction phase from January 2020.
