Morton appoint Hopkin as manager then ask fans to dig deep

- By CRAIG STEWART

Former Livingston manager David Hopkin has returned to Scottish football to take over at Greenock Morton, his first club as a player.

The 48 year old left Livingston at the end of last season after guiding them to back-toback promotions. After failing to secure the Carlisle United manager’s position he joined English League One side Bradford City where he spent five months before resigning in February.

He will now replace Jonatan Johannson who quit Morton an hour before the final game of the season against Dundee United when he was told that his contract was not going to be renewed.

Hopkin, pictured, has signed a three-year deal and Morton chairman Crawford Rae said: “Attracting David back to the club is a massive coup for us, especially when he has been offered so many positions since leaving Livingston. “David is a phenomenal coach and we are delighted that he will be working to further develop our home-grown talent while building a squad that will hopefully bring absent supp or ters back to Cappielow.”

Rae has asked the club’s fans to help bolster Hopkin’s budget. “To get into the Premiership, we need your help. Moving forward we want to see supporters have greater involvement at Morton and have a greater say in how the club will be run.”

“If our supporters really want to see the club flourish then this is the time for our fans to get involved with Morton Club Together (MCT) and make a pledge.”
