Too much TV
In February 2019, the BBC launched a dedicated Scottish channel. This would seem to be the result of constant criticism and berating from Scottish government minister sand SNP activists about imagined BBC bias and their demand for a broadcasting service comprising news and other programmes originating in Scotland and reflecting a Scottish perspective.
For this, the BBC earmarked a budget of £32 million and set out to hire 80 new journalists.
While initial viewing figures were encouraging, these have slumped, with only 4,000 watching the flagship news programme The Nine. This would seem to suggest that few viewers are willing to change their viewing choices to watch the new Scottish channel. As a result, it has been suggested some big names on the channel are considering leaving.
The failure of the new channel would seem to suggest little viewing research was done by the BBC before starting their new Scottish channel. Instead, a battered BBC caved in to the raucous demands of nationalists for a SNP broadcasting mouthpiece!
