Amazon challenge:g Tribal leader lobb ies French president over threats to rainforest

The ethnic group chief is touring Europe to raise awareness of growing threats to the Amazon rainforest.

Internationally recognisable by his traditional lip plate and feather headdress, Metuktire is seeking to raise €1 million (£870,000) to help protect the Amazon’ sXingu reserve which is home to many of Brazil’s tribal peoples, who are imperilled by loggers, farmers and fire.

He is also due to meet Pope Francis at the Vatican.
