PR job
Instead of tinkering with the list in the Additional Member System we use to elect our MSPs,aspropos ed by Jim Craig en( Letters ,15 May ), we should change the voting system completely.
If the MSPs were elected by single transfer able vote proportional representation (STV-PR), there would be no list. Instead, all MSPS would be elected on the same basis. All MSPS would be constituency MSPS, directly accountable to the local voters whose votes secured their election.
To ensure proportional representation we must elect several MSPS together. The constituencies must be large enough to encourage the major parties to nominate teams of candidates, not just one. With STV-PR the voters would have real choice among all the candidates standing in their constituency. That would really improve representation in the Scottish Parliament.
