Tough watch for Wilson as Scots lose to Canada

-

Preparations for this summer’s international competition have not exactly gone to plan for Scotland coach Jen Wilson who watched her side lose 3-0 to Canada at Glasgow Green last night, writes Craig Madden.

The Canadians are three places below the Scots in the international rankings but beat them for the second time in two days to go two up in the five-test match series.

The first quarter was fast and competitive and, although Canada had the b est of the chances, there were no goals. The Scots then had opportunities. A penalty corner routine involving Kaz Cuthber t and Mckenzie Bell came to nought, before Louise Campbell drove into the circle and was unlucky not to hit the target.

Canada took the initiative in the second half and only some fine saves by Lucy Camlin prevented a score. But in the end Brienne Stairs put the Canadians ahead with a powerful strike.

As with the first game, the fourth quarter proved a challenge as Kate Wright and then Steph Norlander put Canada 3-0 ahead.

The Scots might have stolen a consolation but Charlotte Watson’ s diving effort went just wide of the target.

Meanwhile, a hat-trick from Holcombe’s Heather Mcewan was the highlight of the Scotland Development side’s 3-3 draw against France.

McEw an scored an early double in the first quarter but the lethal French penalty corner routine level led by the interval. Mcewan put the Scots 3-2 ahead in the second half from the spot but the visitors equalised with five minutes left.
