Leg-weary White aiming to complete a 54-game season

- By ALASDAIR FRASER

Jordan White is the only one of the Inverness squad to have starred in ever y competitive game this season.

And the man who shook the inside of the post with a powerful header in Tuesday’s first leg play-off defeat by Dundee United feels confident of adding another two huge matches to that mighty tally.

The 27- year-old ex-livingston striker joined John Robertson’ s squad last summer and has loved ever y minute of the adventure despite growing leg-weary late on in a gruelling campaign.

White said: “Don’t get me wrong, all the boys are tired but you can get through it with adrenaline. There will be a big crowd down there at Tannadice and that will lift us right through it.

“That’s 51 games now for me. It’s tough – it hasn’t been easy at all – but these are the games you live for. No matter how tired I am, I’ll give everything out there because it means so much to us.

“It’s a great club, great staff, great boys and I’ve enjoyed every minute with Inverness. I just want to make it even better by getting into the next round.”

White reckons it is liberating for Caley Thistle to know, one way or another, they just have to win. A one-goal win – like the one they secured at Tannadice in the Scottish Cup – would take them to extra time, while two would seal passage to play Hamilton or St Mirren in the final.

White said: “We beat Ayr in the first game and were very confident down at Ayr and the second game was a wee bit nervy. We didn’t know how to take it back in Inverness – do you defend the lead or go for it? That can affect you.

“We’ve been better away from home than at home this season, but before the sending-off [of Liam Polworth] on Tuesday I thought we were the better team and looked the more likely to score.”

Manager John Robertson will be without skipper Carl T re marco and long-term injury victim Sean Welsh, but took a huge lift from the readiness of winger Tom Walsh to return.

Robertson senses his players are in the moo d to cre - ate an upset on Tayside this evening. He said: “We’re good – they feel a wee bit disap - pointed. They put a lot of effort into the game the other night. We defended well, worked hard and put a lot of energy into it. After the game, the lads were annoyed [but] we’re going to go down there in a very positive state of mind.

“We know we’ve got to win. It becomes a knock-out for us. We’ll take great energ y and confidence from our last cup tie down there. We have nothing to lose.”
