United eye £40m Moussa

- By JOEL SKED

Former Celtic striker Moussa Demb ele is b eing lined up by Manchester United as part of the club’s rebuild.

The 22-year- old has been a n e x c e l l e n t a d d i t i o n f o r Lyon this season, netting 22 goals in all competitions.

United, under Ole Gunnar S olskjaer, are planning an ex t e n s ive ove r h a u l o f t h e squad in the summer after a disappointing season which saw the English giants finish sixth in the Premier League. why Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic was not cited for an off the ball clash with R angers striker Jermain Defoe during the match.

But Celtic interim manager Lennon insists Flanagan has no grounds for appeal and hit out at the nature of Rangers’ complaint.

“L o o k , t h e y [ R a n g e r s ] are good at making statements,” said Lennon. “We are above all that. The only thing I want to say is that it’s a straight red card – we should feel aggrieved that Jon Flanagan didn’t get a red. That’s all I want to say on it.”

Dembele is seen as a possible candidate for the striker position with his age and promise appealing to United, who are willing to pay £40 million for the player.

But Celtic will only receive five per cent of that figure, c o m p a r e d t o t h e t e n p e r cent sell-on clause they got when selling Virgil van Dijk. When Liverpool signed the defender from Southampton for £75m, the Parkhead coffers were boosted by £7.5m.

If Dembele is sold for £40m this summer, Celtic are in line to receive £2m.
