Mclaughlin is Reporter of the Year

Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday j ournalist Mart yn Mclaughlin has been named Daily/ Sunday Reporter of the Year in the UK Regional Press Awards for his revelation­s about Donald Trump’s business dealings in Scotland.

Mclaughlin received his award from the Society of Editors at a ceremony in London yesterday. Awards host and LBC presenter Nick Ferrari said: “Painstakin­g research and dogged determinat­ion led to a marvellous investigat­ion into Donald Trump’s golfing activities in Scotland - a story of local, national and internatio­nal interest.”

Mclaughlin’s exc l usive s included a front page story in The Scotsman revealing the president’s Turnberry resort had received t housands of pounds of US taxpayers’ money to host VIP visits by officials from his administra­tion.

In Scotland on Sunday, Mclaughlin revealed that Trump had unsuccessf­ully attempted to convince the Bank of Scotland to lend him nearly £ 40 million to help launch a new golfing hotel in St Andrews by acquiring Hamilton Hall.
