Bodyguard star shrugs off Bond rumours

- By ANGUS HOWARTH

Body guard and Game of Thrones star Richard Madden has shrugged off rumours that he is set to become the next James Bond.

The actor wore a very Bondesque white tuxedo when he appeared at the Cannes Film Festival, but was quick to play down suggestions he was being lined up as the new 007.

Some British bookies have recently had Madden as the favourite to succeed Daniel Craig, who is currently shooting what he has said will be his last movie in the role.

Asked about t hose odds, Madden said it was “very flattering to be involved in that conversation”.

But the Scottish actor said: “It’s all just talk,” and added that “I’m sure it will be someone different next week.”

The 32- year- old star is in Cannes with the Elton John biopic musical Rocketman, in which he plays John’s manager John Reid.

The film tells the story of Elton John’s rise to the top and his collaboration with Bernie Taupin on the 1972 hit song Rocketman.

His co-star Taron Egerton followed up Madden’s remarks by humming the Bond theme song.
