Norman Gilbert

The Tatha Gallery has been flying the flag for good art from the site of the old ferry pier in Tayport for five years now and is marking its anniversary with a retrospective of the work of veteran Norman Gilbert. It is billed as paintings from 1966 to 2018, but there is one painting in the show from 1956. He was already established as a painter by then but had not evolved what became his characteristic style: paintings that are at once almost abstract in their brightly all- over patterning and also very human.
