Goodbye Mr Mackenzie

- Fiona Shepherd

As both The Skids and Hipsway have amply demonstrated in the last couple of years, there is a healthy commercial appetite for the reunion of local favourites of a certain age who captured the imagination first time round. Edinburgh’s Goodbye Mr Mackenzie stood on the periphery of the slick Scotpop scene, with a slightly darker demeanour, and are arguably better known these days as the outfit which launched Shirley Manson’s career. But the sold- out signs on this tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Good Deeds and Dirty Rags, suggest a deeper connection for the fans.
