Davidson urged to back fresh EU vote

A veteran former Scottish Conservative MEP has called on Ruth Davidson to back a second EU referendum if she wants to win power at Holyrood.

St ru an Stevenson, who represented Scotland in the European Parliament for 15 years, said the continuing deadlock over Brexit was harming Ms Davidson’s efforts to put the Tories in contention for power at the next Holyrood election.

He said backing a second EU referendum ahead of Thursday’ s European elections would help the Scottish Tories makeup “lost ground”.

“Ruth Davidson’s leaflet came out today saying ‘We want no more referendums’,” he told the Herald on Sunday. “Where do people like me, strong Remainers, go?”
