#MICHAEL HESELTINE

Michael Heseltine says that the Conservative Party has become ‘infected by the virus of extremism’. The former Tory deputy Prime minister has said that he will not be supporting the Conservatives in the upcoming European elections as he cannot endorse the party’s stance on Brexit. He will instead vote for the Liberal Democrats.

@Matthewgreen02 wrote: “When lifelong #Conservatives like Michael #Heseltine say they will be voting @Libdems, the writing is firmly on the wall for the #Tory party.”

@Mary83325345 joked: “At least some good may come out of the referendum after all.”

@Cliff_944 added: “Wow, just wow. I never thought I’d see Heseltine vote Libdem.”

#EUROVISION

The UK finished dead last at Eurovision on Saturday night. Michael Rice received a total of 16 points, including just three from the public vote.

@Domthered tweeted: “Really feel for Michael Rice but as I said nobody has given the UK points for years now it’s not a music contest hadn’t been for a long time.” @Scottygb wrote: “Wow we’re popular in Europe!” @Jaxcampbell82 added: “Absolutely gutted that we came last!! Michael Rice put in a great performance with good vocals and a good song. I don’t even think we could win nowadays if Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran or ABBA with Waterloo were representing us! So political now and it will sadly never change.”

#IANCURTIS

Fans have paid tribute to Joy Division’s Ian Curtis at the weekend. The English singer, songwriter and frontman died on 18 May, 1980.

@Robsummerfield1 tweeted: “In the early hours of this day in 1980, Ian Curtis left us. A tremendously gifted frontman and lyricist in Joy Division. Despite a brief career together their legacy and influence shines brighter than ever nearly four decades later.

“Watching forever, watching love grow.”

@Charlcorder added: “His lyrics are like poetry in motion, like nothing you’ve ever heard before. The music iconic, sending shivers up and down your spine. Little did Ian Curtis know how much Joy Division would influence countless other bands and musicians.

“RIP Ian Curtis.”
