Confidence remains high among self-employed Scots, with most expecting to land new work in 2019 and embrace technology, new research suggests.

More than half (54 p er cent) of self-employed workers in Scotland are optimistic they will win more work this year, according to the latest Sentimeter report from Kensington Mortgages.

This represents a marginal rise from 53 per cent in 2018.

An overwhelming majority (88 per cent) of respondents also believe new technology will have a positive impact on their business.

Scottish Government figures show that the number of self-employed in Scotland hit 322,900 by the end of 2017, the latest year for which figures are available, accounting for 12.3 per cent of all employment.

New business director Craig Mckinlay said: “It’ s clear fro mt hi slatest research that selfemployed workers in Scotland are tough, resilient and generally optimistic about their future prosp ects, even in the face of ongoing uncertainty.”
