We’re in good shape, says Rennie

- By DUNCAN SMITH

Glasgow coach Dave Rennie was able to report a pretty much clean bill of health ahead of Saturday’s Guinness Pro14 final against Leinster at Celtic Park as excitement builds for the biggest occasion in Scottish pro club rugby history.

The Warriors are seeking to add to the historic title they won in Belfast in 2015 by beating the reigning champions and have a strong squad to pick from heading towards the final.

“Lee Jones is now available, Niko Matawalu is available, so I think we have George Turner, Tim Swinson, Chris Fusaro, and Matt Smith unavailable and that’s about it,” said Rennie.

Scrum-half George Horne took a bang in the 50-20 rout of Ulster in Friday’s semi-final at Scots to un but has come through the weekend fine.

“Yeah, he was as good as gold by Saturday morning,” said Rennie. “He just landed on his elbow, his funny bone and got pins and needles; couldn’t feel his hand for a while.

“We’re not going to overtrain. It’s just a case of being clear and doing what we need to do.

“We also need to make sure we have a bit of fun, because that’s really important in a week like this. We’re excited.”

Ireland lo ck Devin Toner has been ruled out for Leinster after sustaining a knee injury in their semi-final win over Munster in Dublin at the weekend. Josh van der Flier will be available after coming through his return from a groin injury with no issues.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Welshman Nigel Owens has been appointed to referee his sixth final in the competition. Owens will be assisted by John Lacey of Ireland and Scotland’s Mike Adams on as he holds the whistle for his 180th appearance in the championship.
