Thomson hangs up whistle

Craig Thomson has announced his retirement after 31 years as a referee. His final game was Celtic’s 2-1 win over Hearts on Sunday.

Thomson, 46, was the man in charge when Hearts beat Hibs 5-1 in the 2012 Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park.

“I’ ve enjoyed 19 years as a Category one referee ,” he told BBC Scotland. “It’s time to let younger ref s come through.”

In total, Thomson officiated at three Scottish Cup finals, four Scottish League Cup finals and at Euro 2012.
