Scott Morrison’s ‘’miracle’’ victor y in the Australian general election should give hope to all. He spoke of the ‘’quiet Australians’’ who brought it about. Not marching or demonstrating or waving flags or throwing milkshakes at opponents or endlessly jamming social media with tedious nonsense, the election was won by the silent majorit y, in many ways similar to those who won the 2014 Scottish referendum victory that kept the UK in one piece.

Interestingly, it would seem that in Australia, as it was in S cotland, the winning silent majorit y was spread across all age and social classes, perhaps more a contest between quiet and reflective thinkers and noisy non-thinkers.
