Libyan navy rescues 290 migrants

Libya’s navy has confirmed it rescued three boats carrying a total of 290 Europebound migrants off t he country’s Mediterranean coast.

The Libyan coastguard first reported finding a sinking rubber boat whose bottom had collapsed on Thursday, leaving 87 mi grants, including six women and a child, in the water and hanging onto what was left of the boat and plastic barrels.

Earlier, the coast guard came to the rescue of two other rubber boats carrying a total of 203 migrants.

The three boats carried mostly Arab a nd Afr i - can nationals as well as 14 Bangladeshis.
