Space firm launches internet satellites

Spacex has begun to roll out a network of orbiting satellites that will beam internet coverage down to Earth as part of a new broadband scheme.

The space company has successful­ly deployed 60 satelli t es t o space. The multibilli­on- dollar Starl i n k p r o j e c t h a s b e e n approved by the US communicat­ions agency t o send almost 12,000 satellites into space.

S pacex f ounder El on Mu s k h a s p r e v i o u s l y claimed that once active, the network will deliver “one terabit of bandwidth” to Earth, with the aim of using t he new net work to provide better internet access t o under- ser ved parts of the world.

Mr Musk said previously that it will take “six more launches” of 60 satellites to initially activate Starlink, and 12 more for significan­t coverage.
