Skipper Andy Robertson i n s i s t s S c o t l a n d n e e d t o be “streetwise” when they face B elgium in Brussels this evening.

The Liverpool left-back was in the side which were brushed aside 4- 0 by the Red Devils in a friendly at Hampden last September.

R o b e r t s o n i s c o n f i - d e n t t h a t t h e s q u a d h a s improved since then and wants to demonstrate that in their Euro 2020 qualifier against the side ranked No 1 in the world, who have won three out of three Group I games.

He said: “We have learned a lot. We have developed as a squad. It was a relatively new squad then, a lot of c h a n g e s a n d w e h a v e probably had ten months t o g e t h e r a n d w e h a v e bonded and know how to play with each other.

“We m a d e d i s a s t r o u s mistakes in that game and that’s what we need to cut o u t , t h a t ’s t h e o n e s t h a t killed us that night and we need to learn from them.

“We need to be a lot more streetwise and try to frustrate them and the longer i t g o e s , h o p e f u l l y t h a t happens and we grow in confidence.”

Rober tson railed at the idea that the game against the star-studded hosts was a “free hit” for the Scots.

The former Dundee United and Hull City defender, who scored in the 2-1 win over Cyprus at Hampden Pa r k o n S a t u r d ay n i g ht , said: “I don’t really believe in free hits if I am honest.

“We are all fighting in this group for the places to get to the Euros so there is no such things as free hits.

“Of course B elgium are p o t o n e a n d we k n ow i t is going to b e the toughest game, especially away from home.

“But we have to believe that we can get something because if we can, a lot of p eople back in S cotland will look a lot differently at the table.

“We have already got a big result against Cyprus which put us in a b etter position and it is a lot nicer viewing.

“But if we can get some - thing tomorrow night I am sure the fans can look at the group and b e optimistic about what can happen.”
