SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford has called Boris Johnson a “racist” on the floor of the House of Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions, sparking uproar.

@Sanniosingh said: “There needs to be far more free and frank conversations in the House of Commons. MPS should be able to call each other out for exactly what they think of each other.”

@davemacladd posted: “Well said that man. We need more politicians with honesty and integrity.”

@tonyjoyce6 commented: “Finally addressing the important stuff . How can you lead a nation when you have a bias against half of it?”

@terrytaxi noted: “May certainly failed to endorse him and deflected with the non-answer she gave.”

@Zmirza88 said: “A Member of Parliament decided to tell the truth and represent a sentiment the public have been feeling. Good on him.”

@Alexandrabeetle posted: “Looks like Boris Johnson will be more divisive, more unpopular, more of an embarrassment than Theresa May. Why are the Tories shooting themselves in the foot/directly in the head by electing him? It’s baffling. It will bring the government down and destroy the Tory Party.” @Hippychick3000 said: “@ Ianblackfordmp my third current favourite MP after Dennis Skinner and Jeremy Corbyn.” @thatgeordie77 added: “If I ever meet @Ianblackfordmp I’m going to buy him a pint!”

#RENEWABLES

Nearly 50 per cent of the world’s electricity will come from renewable energy by 2050 as costs of wind, solar and battery storage continue to plummet, according to a new report.

@Yeahitis said: “Solar panels in the desert could power the whole world but we fight over oil instead.”

@gladiolaz commented: “2050 is not soon enough. We will have to do better.”

@Z_N7ID posted: “There’s nothing as natural as endless rolling hills covered in wind turbines. What a beautiful sight!”

@grewal_harp said: “Better late than never said the extinct animals.”

@Cristi_neagu added: “Not likely. Wind and solar are not reliable and inefficient. Invest the same in nuclear and by 2050 100 per cent of our energy will be clean.”
