Munsey applauds Forfar’s excellence at the crease but admits ‘we didn’t apply ourselves’
Grange star George Munsey looked back on his side’s tabletop defeat by title pacesetters Forfarshire on Saturday – and admitted they were handed a lesson in batting application by the leage leaders.
The Broughty Ferry boys stretched their advantage by deservedly and comprehensively completing the league double over the champions at Forthill.
Scotland big-hitter Munsey reflected: “It is all about applying your skills week in and week out if you want to compete for honours.
“This is something that Forfarshire are doing extremely well – and something our batsmen need to work harder on.
“This match was always going to be a tough one for both teams and it turned out to be a low-scoring, thrilling encounter. The pitch was hard and green allowing both batters and bowlers to enjoy.
“We simply didn’t apply ourselves with the bat again.
“Our bowlers – especially John Blain – bowled extremely well and we almost did the impossible.
“With Forfs on 40 for four we had a sniff.
“But the experience of Ryan Watson helped to guide them home.
“Credit due to both teams who fielded and bowled extremely well. There was a lot of quality on show.”
Scott Cameron emerged as the pick of the host attack as he bagged four for 34 as Grange collapsed to 112 all out.
Dylan Budge (45) and Munsey (35) led the resistance, but the rest of the line-up struggled.
Blain’s three for 35 gave the visitors a whiff of a chance, but Michael Leask guided them home by six wickets with an unbeaten 42.
Arbroath began the second half of the campaign in positive fashion by completing the back-to-back cup and league demolition job on RHC at Barnton.
Craig Ramsay took five for 18 to send the capital troops slithering to 78 all out.
The Arbroath batsmen also toiled in the tricky conditions, but they held their nerve when it mattered to notch the fivewicket win.
A brilliant 124 by Hayes van der Berg propelled Heriot’s to glory by 22 runs against
Watsonians at Myreside.
Carlton dominated the exchanges with Stoneywooddyce at Peoples Park.
They rattled up a lofty 309 for eight before curbing the home brigade to 78 for three in a rainaffected chase – 68 adrift of the par score.
Aberdeenshire’s relegation fears deepened as they were swept aside by Stewmel in an abbreviated tussle at Inverleith.
