found similar intimidation tactics in Ceausescu’s Romania and now we have them in Scotland. A victory indeed.

My suspicion is that it isn’t a very good film, despite looking beautiful. Angus Macfadyen co-wrote the script and perhaps stands to lose a fair bit of money if it doesn’t do well. If he loves the country so much he could have got a Scottish crew and not shot most of it in Montana, USA . . .

Simon Baron Hay

Come to Scotland and see the beautiful High Plains , the cowboys wearing kilts and a Stetson and a six-gun fighting those pesky red Indians, I mean English, with authentic real accents y’all.

John Mcmorris

It’s a great film. I saw it last night. The scenes in Scotland are stunning – a great advert for the country. Haters are gonna hate. Unionists are obsessed with this movie. They can’t stop talking about Braveheart, even though it was 25 years ago, and now they have this. It’s all they have. Quick everyone! Vote No because of a 2019 movie!

Independence 2.0 Former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale has called on Scottish football fans to support England at the Women’s World Cup.

Of course I’ll want England to win. I’m in favour of an independent Scotland but England are one of the countries of this island and so are worthy of support. Go England’s women!

Gerry Smith I’d support England before I voted for Kez.

Kevin Bulloch

I was proud of the Scottish team for getting there for the first time in history. I think the English are doing amazingly and I certainly hope they go all the way. The men’s teams could learn a lot.

Liz Crosbie

I am Scottish but I have lived in Australia for over 40 years. I too have been following the World Cup, and think England could win it. However, when Kezia Dugdale talks about them being the only ‘home’ nation left, and to bring the trophy ‘home’ she loses me. England has never been my home, and presumably not her’s either. Of course there could be debate about whether Scotland or Australia is now my ‘home’ but wherever it is, it certainly isn’t England, and I feel just as much in common with the Swedish, Dutch and American athletes as I do the English ones.

Legget Fred

If your own nation is out why not choose to cheer for a particular foreign country? Some Scots might go with England. Most won’t.

Eileen Mcbride

I only support two teams – Scotland and any team that beats England.

Grant Fraser It has to be a ‘no’ from me Kezia, but I hope it’s a great game – something like USA 5 England 0.

Derek Fraser If England win it, 2019 would be mentioned several times during every game during World Cups and European championships, even if England aren’t playing. Kezia must love playing 1966 bingo.

Calum Fash Stewart More football, with a leading historian saying football was invented in Scotland, not England.

I recall this theory in the early 70s. I seem to recall the claim was included in notes explaining the history of soccer, which accompanied collectable cards with pictures of players. I don’t recall any great controversy.

Garrick Maguire

It’s definitely true. The collection of wooden spoons earned by the Scottish national team goes back hundreds of years.

Pete Leverett

We invented it and the rest of the world perfected it.
