Raselasad ready to reap the Rewards handicap at Musselburgh

- By GORDON BROWN

Raselasad is one of six course and distance winners in the line-up for the feature race at Musselburgh today.

Tracy Waggott’s County Durham raider faces seven rivals including previous track scorers Glengarry, Tribal Warrior, Pepys, Jacob Black and How Bizarre, in the ROA Rewards Members handicap over seven furlongs.

Waggott said: “He operates well at places like Musselburgh and Catterick as he has lots of early speed and loves coming round a bend. He has a big weight but should run well if things go his way again.”

Lever Du Soleil is an enticing prospect on his return to the Flat in the ROA Owners Jackpot Handicap. Gavin Cromwell’s four-year-old improved significantly over hurdles last winter and may be significantly under-estimated by his current rating. After switching North Yorkshire for County Meath 11 months ago, the former Tim Easterby-trained gelding immediately crossed codes too and embarked on a successful campaign over jumps.

Lever Du Soleil finished a busy and highly-consistent season on an official mark of 125 yet he is back to his former profession nestling on 9st 1lb in a 0-60 handicap. It is often a flawed calculation to attempt to equate the two ratings systems but, by any reckoning, on his favoured fast ground up to a new trip sure to play to his strengths, Lever Du Soleil has been given a great chance of adding to his solitary Flat success to date.

At Hamilton Park yesterday, Mark Johnston-trained Victory Command and P J Mcdonald landed the £30,000 Almada Mile Handicap by threequarters of a length from fastfinishing Nicholas T, who may have been a tad unlucky after being hampered. Mcdonald said: “We didn’t have the best of runs either but a gap appeared and he stuck on gamely. He won four times last year and his form this season has been pretty good as he’s been running in very competitive races.” The pair completed a double when Mondain made a winning turf debut in the Hamilton Park Supporting Racing Staff Week Handicap.

Adrian Murray made his first trip to the Lanarkshire track a winning one, notching a 23-1 double with Jimmy Sullivan ridden pair Blackstone Cliff and Rego Park Lady.
