Grand designs: Stunning silks from Japan go on show ahead of Oriental auction in Edinburgh

Glorious silk robes and panels are going up for sale at Bonhams Asian sale. Among the highlights are afurisode silk kimono and obi (sash), the most formal style of kimono, which is made of very fine, brightly coloured silk and worn by young unmarried women in Japan, most commonly when celebratin­g Coming of Age Day each year. It is expected to sell for up to £700 on Thursday.
