- By STUART BATHGATE

Cricket Scotland lost one key employee and gained another yesterday as they confirmed the departure of chief executive Malcolm Cannon and announced the appointment of Grant Morgan as Men’s National Team Assistant Coach.

After four years in the post, Cannon will leave the governing body in midseptember to take up the post of national director Scotland with the Institute of Directors Scotland. “It has been a huge honour to be part of Cricket Scotland these past four years and a privilege to work with an exceptionally dedicated and skilled team who lead the sport with pride and belief,” he said yesterday.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished as a team on behalf of our stakeholders and of the increased presence we have achieved on a global level.

“I am convinced that Cricket Scotland will continue to be an increasingly strong force in world sport and that it can achieve its ambitious aims. I wish everyone all the success in the world.”

The search has already begun for a successor to Cannon, with the governing body calling the role “a new and exciting opportunity to be part of the organisation’s ambitious strategy.”

Meanwhile, morgan’srole will see him assist Shane Burger with the men’s national team and fulfil the role of head coach for the men’s A team as well as being national lead coach for one skill set.

A coach with 26 years’ experience, he joins Cricket Scotland from South African team Hollywoodbets Dolphins. He previously coached South Africa National U19 and Royal Challengers Bangalore among others.

“It is a huge honour for me to be able to represent a country with great history, pride and beauty such as Scotland in the sport of cricket,” Morgan said.

“I know the head coach well and he is a massively passionate and astute cricketing man and to serve Scotland with him is the highlight of my 26 years of coaching at all levels.”
