‘Beautiful’ teenager dies at party after suspected ecstasy dose

A 16-year-old schoolgirl collapsed and died at a party after taking a drug believed to be ecstasy.

The teenager, named locally as Chelsea Bruce, collapsed at a flat in Springburn, North Glasgow, at 2:30 am on sunday morning.

Two teenage boys were also hospitalis­ed as part of the incident.

Paramedics tried to save Miss Bruce, but she died at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Two boys, aged 16 and 18, were hospitalis­ed after feeling unwell at the flat in Fernbank Street, police said.

It is understood that Police Scotland is investigat­ing the possibilit­y the teenagers had taken MDMA or ecstasy.

A post-mortem examinatio­n will be carried out, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

In a statement, Miss Bruce’s family said: “Words cannot express the utter devastatio­n and loss we feel that our beloved, beautiful Chelsea has been taken from us in such tragic circumstan­ces.

“She was our wee angel and had her whole life in front of her.

“Everyone loved her. She was an incredibly kind, loving and generous girl who was always smiling.”

Friends paid tribute to Miss Bruce, with one describing her as “an angel”.

Writing on social media, Kerry Mcdougall said: “I am so sorry the way things turned Chels.

“You will be sadly missed by everyone, go and spread your wings as you were too good for this earth.

“I will forever hold the memorieswe made together lovely .”

And Amy Maxwell added: “RIP gorgeous.

“You truly were an angel. “Such a lovely girl heart goes out to your family, you will be sadly missed.

“Rip beautiful.” A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “At 2:30am on Sunday 7 July police and emergency services were called to reports a 16-year-old girl had taken unwell and collapsed at a flat in Fernbank Street, Springburn.

“She was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she died a short time later.

“A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of her death, which at the moment police are not treating as suspicious.

“Inquiries are continuing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

“Two male youths, aged 16 and 18, were also in the flat and also felt unwell.

“They were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they remain for observatio­n.”
