Ingliston to host Golden Shears

-

While countries around the world compete to host the Olympics and the football World Cup, a successful bid for no less a prestigious competition will see the 2022 Golden Shears World Championships held at Ingliston, just outside Edinburgh.

The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) was awarded the of hosting the world’s premier shearing competition at the close of this year’s event in Le Dorat, France following a successful presentation by the society’s project team.

The competition will take place during the 2022 Royal Highland Show attracting entries from around the world.

“It was a really strong presentation from the experienced RHASS team that built on the experience and knowledge gained from the successful delivery of the Golden Shears competition held at Ingliston in 2003, and of course this year’s recordbreaking Royal Highland Show,” said the show’s chief steward of shearing, Bruce Lang.

He said that with the backing of Event Scotland and the Scottish Government together with RHASS’ proven event management skills and shearing expertise, the World Shearing Council had decided that RHASS was the right organisation to host such a prestigious event.

“The fact that it will take place in Edinburgh no doubt supported our bid – the city has such appeal with international visitors,” added Lang.

Representing RHASS, Lang took part in the Golden Shears closing ceremony in Le Dorat, and received the Championship Shield traditionally held by the host city.
