‘The need for speed’: Royal Mile shut for chase

-

Residents on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh have been warned to prepare for Holywood high-speed car chases as the city route is shut in September to film scenes from the latest chapter in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Production company FF9, alongside Universal Pictures, have leafleted local residents and businesses about filming.

The High Street, Parliament Square and St Giles Street will be shut for filming on 9 and 10 September.

There will also be filming within East Parliament Square on 8 September.

The notice said the area had been chosen as the area of one of our “hero locations”.

The Fast and Furious action films, which centre round illegal street racing, are Universal’s biggest franchise of all time and is the ninth-highest grossing film series of all time.

Previous films have starred Holywood stars such as Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.

The notification says “the scenes involve vehicles travelling at speed and as such require us to implement road closure along the High Street and Parliament Square”.

The road closure will be in operation from 6am on 9 September to 10pm on 10 September inclusive.

There will be a police presence during filming.

Residents and office workers will be escorted through the security barriers, though they may have to wait until certain scenes are shot.

The public will be diverted around the film area.

The film company says it will hold meetings with those living in the area and local businesses.

The ninth Fast and Furious movie is due for release in 2020.
