THFEOSOCDO&TDSMRIANNK 200 Is there a Hidden Gem in the business of food we need to know about?

The Scotsman’s Food and Drink awards are inviting nominations to recognise top talent in the industry

The Scotsman’s popular Food and Drink Awards, which will see Scotland’s top producers – as nominated by you – vie for the top prize across 13 categories, return with a special event in Edinburgh this September.

We are asking readers, to nominate businesses and individuals you believe lead the field when it comes to pushing this thrilling sector forward. One of the most exciting of this year’s categories is the Hidden

Gem award, which will see all of the businesses shortlisted narrowed down to a key list of ten finalists.

Secret spots, creative locations, stunning views or quirky decor; whether you like them for the mystery they’re surrounded by or the innovative dishes they produce, we are looking for you to tell us about them.

The exceptional entries from those nominated which make the judge’s shortlist, will then be given back to the public, who will choose the final winner in a reader’s choice format.

Last year, the family run Sun Dancer in Nairn impressed both our readers and judging panel with its stunning views of the Moray Firth, delightful dishes and welcoming atmosphere.

Lee Jack, owner of Sun Dancer, said: “We are truly thrilled to win an award like this, this is our first ever award and we are gobsmacked. We were up against such great competition in both categories from across the whole of Scotland that we did not think we would win, however we worked hard to rally our loyal customers and it’s really down to them, as they are the ones who have voted.”

Another category which is always popular with our readers is Best Craft Beer, which sees brewers and bar owners go head to head to see which of them offers the best overall drinking experience for their customers, be it a product that shines on the shelf or a pub that pulls pints to perfection. Taking the plaudits last year was Edinburgh’s own Stewart Brewing, who were praised for their consistent commitment to quality and desire to help educate the next generation of brewers through their ties to the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-watt University.

With six weeks until the deadline of 13 August, there is still plenty of time to nominate for both of these categories, or indeed, any of the 13.
