Glasgow agency targets India

- By SCOTT REID

A Glasgow-based smart mobile marketing agency is to open an office in India as it looks to tap into the vast Asian market.

Digit onic, which recently secured investment valuing the business at some £10 million, said it had identified the rapidly evolving Indian market as having “huge potential” for its smart mobile marketing technology.

According to the World Economic Forum, India is set to become the world’s third largest consumer market by 2030 with spending growing from about $1.5 trillion (£1.2tn) in 2019 to nearly $6tn by then.

Grant Fraser, chief executive of Digitonic, which reported 44 per cent revenue growth in its last financial year, said: “As consumer spending rapidly increases, India will become an increasingly important and attractive market for businesses across the globe.

“As such, it is critic al that we are able to help our clients acquire and retain customers in this growing market to ensure they are able to fully capitalise on the opportunities it has to offer.

“These opportunities are particularly strong when it comes to mobile devices as it is anticipated that there will be over 800 million smartphone users in India by 2022.

“By entering the market now, we will be well po sitioned to provide the support and expertise that businesses will require to build a footprint with Indian consumers.”

As part of its market entry strategy, the firm has already built up a rapidly growing “opt-in” Indian advertising network that consists of just under two million local cricket fans.

It has also invested in developing new content platforms, including the recently launched cricket news website, www.cricketnews.com, that it plans to “rapidly develop” to help brands reach the Indian consumer market.

Founded in 2011, Digitonic employs 20 people at its headquarters in central Glasgow.
