#BORISJOHNSON

With polls soon to close in the vote for the next leader of the Conservative Party, Boris Johnson appealed for Tories who haven’t yet cast their vote to choose him. Meanwhile it emerged that British rules are to blame for the kipper ‘plastic ice pillow’ he blamed on EU regulations in a speech this week.

@Albertheo wrote: “The European Commission has just said that Boris Johnson’s claim on smoked kipper regulations is nonsense.”

@searmonaiche added: “So it’s now emerged that the whole Boris attack on EU red tape kipper ice bag costing the British fisherman is in fact not an EU regulation but is actually imposed by the British government... the best comedy writers couldn’t script this stuff.”

@Petermac68 (apparently a Red Dwarf fan) wrote: “Smoke me a Kipper Boris and make sure you are back for breakfast.”

@Libdempress punned: “Johnson’s ‘fishy tales’ have no plaice in Number 10. Yesterday Boris blamed the EU for rules on kippers from the Isle of Man, but this is entirely a matter for the UK. With just days to go before he becomes PM he has reminded us all he cannot be trusted.”

#RORYMCILROY

Rory Mcilroy suffered a nightmare start at The Open. The Northern Irish golfer hit a quadruple bogey at the start of round one on the first day of the golf tournament.

@Johnpjames87 reckoned the golf bag was half full: “Oh dear Rory... poor start but can easily recover.”

@urbanbigp tweeted: “Not the golfer he was 5/6 years ago, too much money now, and hasn’t as much drive now to win with all the money in the bank, need to go back to his lifestyle before the millions and millions.”

@Tonytracey said: “Inevitable after the cocky interview he gave yesterday about it being ‘the same old course’ he knows like the back of his hand!”

@Realkevinpalmer added: “Imagine being Rory Mcilroy playing in your home major championship, all the pre-event hype, all the expectation and then this happens. A sporting disaster on a grand scale.”

@Conorcoyne wrote: “When he has a chance to win, he’ll be British. When he loses, he’ll be Irish.”

@Ian_whytepafc said: “He should be penalised for not shouting fore... again! When will something be done about this?”
