Air Raid triumphs again

- By GORDON BROWN

Air Raid maintained his unbeaten record at Hamilton Park with an impressive success in last night’s £34,000 Heineken UK Scottish Stewards’ Cup.

Partnered by regular jockey Jack Garritty, the 6-1 chance made most of the running to beat Lake Volta by a length and a quarter.

Garritty, who has been on board for the gelding’s five career wins, said: “He’s been great for my career and it’s nice to ride a really good horse. He’s a forward-going horse so we keep it simple and don’t disappoint him.

“He had wind issues in the past but that’s all been sorted and he is still unexposed. He seems to enjoy it here and he’s now three from three at the course.”

David Allan produced a fine front-running ride to land the £43,000 Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Glasgow Stakes on 7-2 shot Sameem. Trained in Newmarket by James Tate, he handled stepping up in grade and trip in style as he slammed hot favourite Persian Moon by three lengths.

Allan, successful earlier on with Orion’s Bow, said: “I had to ride him along to get to the front and then he slowed up for me turning in which allowed me to kick again later on.”

There was no time to celebrate as the Ayrshire-born pilot was due on an overnight flight to ride in tomorrow’s Summer Derby in India.
