Hamilton are playing the name game
What’s in a name? When it comes to Scottish football stadia, that’s an increasingly complicated question to answer.
Even the Scottish Professional Football League themselves have been caught napping by the latest change of moniker for Hamilton Accies’ ground.
The SPFL’S own website, along with most media outlets, continued to refer to it as the Hope CBD Stadium when Brian Rice’s side kicked off the new season against Queen’s Park last weekend.
In fact, the ground now glories in the new title of the Fountain of Youth Stadium, courtesy of a £750,000 sponsorship deal with Foy’s, a regenerative stem cell clinic in the Lanarkshire town.
Stadium naming rights are now a crucial source of income for many clubs – hence the Simple Digital Arena at St Mirren, Penny Cars Stadium at Airdrie and C&G Systems Stadium at Dumbarton.
But, for this correspondent, Accies will always play at Douglas Park.
