TV turn-off
Yesterday’s Scotsman tells us outreach workers are to visit
the over-75s as the system of free TV licences for all in that age bracket ends. How patronising. It is time the BBC heirarchy took a long, hard look at what they are actually spending the licence fee on.
It would not go amiss if they honed in on the salaries for the heirarchy and the presenters as the licence payers are agog
at the obscene wages. Why do we need overpaid presenters supported on programmes, especially football-related ones, by four or five pundits? Nearly every quiz programme has a celebrity edition with money going to the stars’ choice of charity – surely charity should begin at home by giving back to the people
who have contributed most to the BBC over the years.
Sadly, there are no kudos for anyone seen helping their own. They are only made to feel important when the word “charity” is used.
