#PHILIPHAMMOND

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, tells the Andrew Marr Show that he is going to hand in his resignation to Theresa May this week.

@Nkeape commented: “But regardless, you know, and we know, you’re sacked, right.” While @ahdidyo reckoned: “It’s a start. But if he had an ounce of integrity he would come clean about the horrors he knows Johnson and crew have planned for the people of this country. A No Deal is just the beginning.”

@ecjulie celebrated: “Sound of cheers from people up & down the country as Philip Hammond finally announces he’s handing in his resignation to Theresa May this week, 1 down few more to go.” However, @Ianwood67ian took a kinder view: “Since 2010 Hammond has been the only Tory with any dignity and compassion in my opinion – he should walk the floor to the @libdems.” And Flowerartistcr0 agreed: “Shame. He seems to be only one of a small, and that’s very small, handful of MPS that seems remotely sensible at the current time.”

@MV4100 pointed out: “Who is better placed than the Chancellor to know the strength of our economy? He’s no remainer, but he knows Boris’s no-deal madness will lead to disaster.”

#TANKER

Iran has released footage showing members of its forces seizing a Britishflagged tanker at sea in the Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman .

@FIGHTEXTREMISTS wanted to know: “When are we going to strike back?” While @wa23268779 thought: “No tactical competence here at all. I’ve seen Cub Scouts occupy a campground with more aggression and precision.” And @Stevehearsey commented: “If the Royal Navy were there with an aircraft carrier and Harriers they could teach them a lesson ... Oh! Hang on a mo...”

@thew_martin took the view: “An Iranian tanker trying to break sanctions. They could of just turned it back rather than escalate a potential problem, but that would of been too simple. Now the tit for tat is getting worse and eventually there will be loss of life for our soldiers and civilians.”
