Airdrie hold on for win as Clyde rally comes up short

Airdrie saw off a David Goodwillie-inspired comeback to win 3-2 at Clyde and pick up their first Betfred Cup win.

The Diamonds looked to be on easy street after Ally Roy’s double and Adam Eckersley’s drive having them three ahead before Goodwillie was introduced as a substitute just after the hour mark.

The former Scotland striker swept home a penalty before heading in a second but the Bully Wee could not force a third.

Partick Thistle top Group F despite missing out on an extra point at Hamilton Accies after a 2-2 draw.

Ryan Williamson fired the Jags into ahead on 16 minutes however Ross Cunningham scored either side of half time before Shea Gordon equalised.

Accies Aaron Mcgowan missed a spot-kick to clinch the three points but the hosts enjoyed a 6-5 penalty success.

In Group H, East Kilbride secured the best result in their nine-year history when they held St Mirren to a goalless draw and then won the shoot-out 6-5.

Edinburgh City substitute Danny Handling scored late on to see off visitors Dunfermlin­e 1-0.

Dundee top Group D after defeating Peterhead 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes at Dens Park.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated visitors Raith Rovers 4-1, with Coll Donaldson, Aaron Doran and Nikolay Todorov scoring after Jordan White opened and Lewis Allan replied.

Ayr defeated Falkirk 2-1 in Group G at Somerset Park with Andy Geggan netting the winner after Declan Mcmanus had cancelled out Luke Mccowan’s opener for Ayr.

The Bairns’ Mark Durnan was dismissed with teammate Ian Mcshane having a late penalty saved.

Stranraer romped past visitors Berwick 6-0, with Mark Stewart scoring a penalty brace and Cammy Elliott, Jordan Allan, Connor Mcmanus as well as James Hilton netting.

In Group E, Queen of the South fell behind at Dumbarton to PJ Crossan’s goal but Michael Paton, Gary Oliver, Stephen Dobbie and Connor Murray replied to secure a 4-1 win.

Montrose’s Josh Skelly netted from the spot early, but it was Forfar who ran out 4-1 winners at Links Park.

Two penalties from Dale Hilson, one given by an assistant after the half-time whistle had been blown, turned things around, with Michael Travis scoring two second-half headers.

East Fife defeated visitors Stenhousem­uir 2-0 with Scott Agnew finding the net twice in their Group A contest and hosts Elgin triumphed 3-0 over Stirling Albion in Group C, with Shane Sutherland scoring either side of Kane Hester.
