Mcgladery has Neigh chance on Flat

● Local owner chases more Musselburgh success with double course winner Bill

- By GORDON BROWN

The man who was leading owner at Musselburgh for the 2018-19 jumps season is after more success on the Flat at his local course today.

Edinburgh-based Gerry Mcgladery has his colours carried by John Ryan-trained Bill Neigh in the £12,000 Join Racing TV Now Nursery Handicap over 5f.

Mcgladery said: “He’s been to Musselburgh twice and won both times including a valuable conditions race on his debut. We knew he was good right from the start and he wasn’t disgraced in the Windsor Castle Stakes.”

Among his rivals is Dazzling Des, a winner at Wolverhampton last month, ridden by current jockeys’ title race leader Danny Tudhope. Also in the line-up is Archie Watson’s Exclusively who ran in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and Harswell, a first success for rookie Middleham handler Liam Bailey when scoring over course and distance in early May.

Mark Johnston is once more enjoying a stunning run of form this month and the Kingsley House trainer saddles Breck’s Selection in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Auction Stakes for two-year-olds over 7f.

The Yorkshire raider, twice raced on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface, is open to improvement as he makes his turf debut.

At Ayr yesterday, Nicholas T won for the fifth time at the course when he took the feature race, the Flower Show @Ayr Racecourse in August Handicap.

Jockey Ben Robinson gave the 9-4 favourite, trained by Jim Goldie, an assured ride to win comfortably by two and three quarter lengths from Asian Angel.

Another locally based trainer Mike Smith saddled Rosemay, 13-2, to win the Ayrshire Cancer Support Handicap by a neck from Betty Grable after being given a power packed ride from Paul Hanagan.

Smith saids: “That’s the second race on the bounce she has won and she certainly is a mare in form. That was a great ride from Paul.”

The opening novice stakes was won by Dick Datchery (11-2) from the David O’meara yard with David Niolan riding and this two year-old looks to be a decent prospect.

Irish trainer Johnny Levins saddled a double with Tai Sing Yeh, 100-30 favourite, in the Ladies Night Handicap and Eleuthera in the Book Direct At Western House Handicap at odds of 13-2. Both were ridden by Donagh O’connor.

Former multiple champion jockey Kieran Fallon was at the track to see his son Cieren ride his first-ever winner at Ayr from his first ride at the track on 9-1 chance Compton’s Finale for trainer Adrian Keatley.
