#BORISJOHNSON
Challenged on the BBC’S Andrew Marr Show over links with businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri when mayor of London, Boris Johnson insists: “There was no interest to declare.”
@tamcohen commented: “And that seems to be the end of that line of questioning ...”
@Samanthamalin contributed: “Two things clear from this interview: 1. Johnson has been talking to the likes of [Hungarian PM] Orban about refusing an extension. 2. Johnson did not declare the Arcuri conflict of interest. He is a nasty, nasty piece of work.”
@Briefcasemike felt that: “I’m pretty sure if a Labour leader had said they were going to build 40 new hospitals Marr’s first question would have been “How are you going to pay for them?”
@Tripeuk opined: “Boris Johnson on#marr: ‘The Conservative Party is the oldest, greatest party in the world ... and we don’t do deals* with other parties.’ (*Apart from the DUP and the Libdems.)”
@Adambienkov joined in: “Any abuse targeted at politicians is ‘reprehensible,’ says Boris Johnson, whose aides are currently briefing that his opponents and critics are traitors to foreign powers.”
#HURRICANELORENZO
The Met Office has announced: “You may have heard reports that #Hurricanelorenzo is heading towards the UK? Well, it won’t be a hurricane, but remnants of the storm may come our way.”
@Bufuscott fretted: “Should I go out and put a few extra nails in my shed roof?”
@spanner74 warned: “Back off #Hurricanelorenzo, I have a plane to catch on Wednesday!”
@kentlois5 agreed: “Not next Saturday please ... as it’s my birthday.”
@metjeffuk added: “I know for some reason the UK does not get hurricanes, but technically if the wind speed exceeds 73mph on the Beaufort scale it’s a hurricane.”
And a gloomy @ Matthew77808399 commented: “This may be a preview of the future, folks. Warmer seas are surely going to make these northeastern hurricanes more common, I think.” However, @ Tomkane50557952 concluded: “In other words, people overreacting again.”
