Booth happy to be drawn with Brondby

- By ALAN CAMPBELL

Glasgow City head coach Scott Booth believes yesterday’s Women’s Champions League last-16 draw in Nyon has given his side a fighting chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

City will play Danish champions Brondby at Petershill Park on 17 October, with the away leg a fortnight later.

Brondby were the lowest of the eight seeded sides but nevertheless have an excellent record in the tournament. they reached the semi-finals in 2014-15, losing to eventual champions Frankfurt. Before that, they twice reached the semi-finals of the Uefa Women’s Cup, the predecessor of the Champions League.

“We have to watch expectations a little bit,” Booth cautioned. “Brondby are a good side and they regularly reach the last 16.

“They’ll cause us problems, we know that, but we’ve avoided Lyon, PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. It’s a draw that gives us a chance.”

Brondby are currently third in the Danish league after nine games, but Booth pointed out: “They’re only a point behind the top two teams. If they were eight to ten points behind it would be different – but they’re right in the mix to win it.”
