Man charged after Airdrie abduction and death

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a father who was found seriously injured on a road.

Police were called to reports of a disturbanc­e in a house on Frew Street, Airdrie, North Lanarkshir­e, early on 19 August.

Colin Macdonald, 59, was found in critical condition a short time later in nearby Greengairs. He died the following day. A 29-year-old man has now been arrested and charged and is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court today.

Mr Mcdonald’s family said: “Our dad Colin Macdonald was the best father we could have asked for. He was an amazing grandfathe­r and an adored uncle, cousin, nephew and friend.

“We feel like we are stuck inanightma­rethatweca­n’t wake up from and that just keeps getting worse.”
