Mechanic crushed by runaway Lothian bus

A mechanic has been left in a coma with serious injuries after being crushed by a runaway bus while working in a Lothian depot. The man, named locally as Ronnie Mcghie, was working the late shift on Saturday 5 October when the accident happened. Sources say he is now in a coma after suffering injuries including broken ribs, a broken hip and a broken leg.

A Lothian spokesman said: “We can confirm that a member of our team was involved in an incident within our central garage on Saturday evening.”

Sources said the victim was crushed between two buses at Lothian’s Annandale Street depot as he desperatel­y tried to stop a runaway vehicle which had not had its handbrake activated.
