The rail world
Richard Leonard reports (Scotsman, 8 October) that his 8.45am train from Glasgow to Edinburgh last Wednesday was cancelled and a parliamentary committee had to postpone the start of its meeting. Surprisingly the world carried on without noticing but I am glad he brought it to our attention.
However, he also worries about how many doctors, nurses and teachers were also held up that morning. Well, I think I could guess that there were very few of them on the train as most people in jobs such as these and the other professions (who he fails to mention but help create the wealth in this country) have probably been at work since before 8am. His lack of knowledge of when people in the real world go to work is a symptom of the disconnection the Labour party has from the voters in this country.
