The late Paddy Ashdown once said that he was persuaded to be a staunch monarchist because of two words: “President Thatcher”.

Now that the Prime Minister has decided to behave like a US president, is it not time the Palace staff reminded Her Majesty that her Prime Minister is supposed to be the leader of the largest party in the House of Commons who can command a majority in Parliament?

Since the present Prime Minister only fulfils one of these conditions, Her Majesty may wish to spare him the indignity of squatting in Downing Street as he intends and simply sack him now.
