Neilson urges United to ‘put foot down’ as Mccall seeks another away victory

Dundee United look to dig in further at the top of the Championship by seeing off Partick Thistle and making it six wins from six at Tannadice tonight.

Manager Robbie Neilson said: “It is nice to establish a lead. However, things can change quickly when everyone has two games in four days. This game is massive as it gives us an opportunity to put our foot down before going up to Inverness.”

Thistle lost 3-1 to visitors Arbroath on Saturday and manager Ian Mccall is looking for another strong performance away from home to make up for it.

“We have won at Inverness and Dens Park so there is no reason we cannot win at Tannadice,” he said.

New Ayr United player/ manager Mark Kerr will have a touchline only role again at Morton due to the thigh injury that kept him out of Friday night’s 2-1 defeat by Dundee.

Kerr said: “It was not the start we wanted. I noticed things on the touchline early on that I wanted fixed but we were soon a couple of goals down.

“We got back into things but we could not get an equaliser.”

Queen of the South take on visitors Inverness Caledonian Thistle with both sides looking to bounce back from disappointing weekends.

The Palmerston side blew a two-goal lead at Alloa and left with only a point after a 2-2 draw, while the Highlanders went down 2-1 at Morton.

Doonhamers manager Allan Johnston said: “We wanted to start a massive three-game week with a win. However, we were pegged back. Inverness are the best team we have faced this season and they will be out to make up for losing.”

Alloa manager Peter Grant is looking for his side to turn their Indodrill Stadium into a fortress by seeing off visitors Dundee. He said: “We came back well on Saturday but it was more dropped points at home. That is something I would like to address against Dundee.”

Dens boss James Mcpake said: “My players stood up to Ayr well and we will look to build on that at Alloa.”

Dunfermline take on a visiting Arbroath side who are four points ahead of them in the table.

Manager Stevie Crawford said: “We might have lost to Dundee United at the weekend but the belief we showed was really good and we will take that into this one.”
