Veterans in Crisis wins UK award
The Scotsman and the JPI media investigations team has won a prestigious award in recognition for its hard-hitting campaign Veterans in Crisis.
The team scooped a Mind Media Award for the investigation which saw titles across the group unite to highlight the unrecorded number of suicides amongst veterans and the lack of support for those experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, homelessness and unemployment.
Both the Holyrood and Westminster governments had been accused of turning a blind eye to the issue, with the campaign revealing that the UK did not monitor the number of veterans taking their lives, unlike countries such as the US, Canada and Australia.
Other winners included actor David Harewood, who opened up about his mental health in BBC documentary Psychosis and Me, and ITV’S
