Veterans in Crisis wins UK award

The Scotsman and the JPI media investigat­ions team has won a prestigiou­s award in recognitio­n for its hard-hitting campaign Veterans in Crisis.

The team scooped a Mind Media Award for the investigat­ion which saw titles across the group unite to highlight the unrecorded number of suicides amongst veterans and the lack of support for those experienci­ng post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, homelessne­ss and unemployme­nt.

Both the Holyrood and Westminste­r government­s had been accused of turning a blind eye to the issue, with the campaign revealing that the UK did not monitor the number of veterans taking their lives, unlike countries such as the US, Canada and Australia.

Other winners included actor David Harewood, who opened up about his mental health in BBC documentar­y Psychosis and Me, and ITV’S
