Raith Rovers host Elgin City tonight in the first of the weekend’s Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup quarter-finals,with the Fifers pleased to be at their Kirkcaldy home and the Moray Men delighted to be away.
Rovers boss John Mcglynn said: “In the last two rounds we have defeated Falkirk and Glenavon at our place, so we are going for a hat-trick of home wins.
“I wanted a home tie as it gives us a better opportunity to progress but facing a team from a lower league is always a banana skin. We will not treat Elgin lightly as they deserve respect for going to Dundee and Airdrie and winning.
“We played well against Stranraer last weekend and I will look for that kind of performance again. We looked dangerous every time we went forward, and we will adopt an attacking approach again.”
Raith will be without onloan Jamie Gullan, who scored twice in last Saturday’s win over Stranraer, as he has already played for Hibs U20s in the cup.
Iain Davidson is back from a ban and can play as a second suspension does not start until tomorrow but injury rules out Robbie Thomson, Joao Victoria and Regan Hendry.
The trip to Fife is Elgin’s fifth game on the road in this season’s competition and boss Gavin Price is hoping his side can produce another success.
He said: “It has been an exciting competition and being the away side at Stark’s Park will not faze us. In the first round we defeated Hibs Colts 4-3 at Easter Road thanks to an injury-time goal. We won 5-4 at Brechin when both teams had players that scored hat-tricks. We found the net twice in two minutes to come back and win 2-1 at Dundee and, in the last round, we won at Airdrie thanks to a goal just before the 90th minute mark and a penalty just after it.”
City will be missing onloan Forfar striker Matty Aitken who is cup-tied.
