PORTUGAL HIT SIX AS FRANCE AND TURKEY QUALIFY
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Portugal cruised to a 6-0 home win over Lithuania to move closer to qualifying for Euro 2020.
Pizzi Fernandes, Goncalo Paciencia and Bernardo Silva also scored for the defending European champions, who can qualify with a win in their final Group B match on Sunday against Luxembourg away.
The rout against last-place Lithuania gives Portugal 14 points, five fewer than group leaders Ukraine – who have already qualified – and one point more than third-placed Serbia who beat Luxembourg 3-2.
Olivier Giroud scored the winning goal from the penalty spot as France beat Moldova 2-1 to move ahead of Turkey in Group H.
It moved Giroud on to 39 international goals and only two behind Michel Platini in France’s all-time scorers’ list, which Thierry Henry tops with 51. France had already qualified earlier in the evening because Iceland drew 0-0 at Turkey, guaranteeing France and Turkey the top two positions.
